Editor’s note: This is the fourth part of a conversation between Bill Cossen and Rachel Eshenour, two high school social studies teachers who sit on the Contingent board. The first three parts of their conversation, found here, here, and here, covered the experience of teaching during the pandemic. In this part, Bill and Rachel discuss the paths each of them took to high school teaching, the secondary education job market, and the flexibility necessary to teach in public schools. They begin by offering some advice for first-year teachers.
